May You Live in Interesting Times/ Espero Que los Tiempos en que Vivas te Sean de Interes

"May you live in interesting times"....

This quote is used mostly in the west though it is accredited to the east; and it is  often mistaken as "good thing". In actuality (as explained by a Chinese diplomat) these words were meant as a curse to your enemy. These words gave the  clear implication that by living in interesting times you experienced much upheaval and trouble in your life. Therefor living in  "uninteresting times" meant that you were experiencing a time of  peace and tranquility which was more  life-enhancing.

If you take it to mean the first  then yes;  our present generation (particularly for those of us in the Midwest ) has certainly witnessed that curse's fulfillment.

I prefer to think of these words in this way: When we experience times of upheaval it is when our true character is made. Only when we go through challenges do we get to see who we really are. Only when we go through adversity can positive change occur.

Yes having peace and tranquility are good things for the soul; however we should never allow  it make us too complacent. When an injustice is done to one,  it is done to all........

And that is how I see it
Peace!
